Film Brief

The task that I was working toward was the main task in which we had to produce a 2 minute film for the genre of our choice. Before this task started I wanted to make a horror film as I felt that I could do it justice and horror is my personal favourite genre of film. When we chose our group, I chose to be with Sam and Courtney, together we agreed to make a horror film although the subject of the film took longer than this initial decision.  The subgenre that we chose was paranormal horror, this was the basis of us deciding to use a Ouija board, all of us liking the film 'Ouija' which was a big hit among teenagers.

We named this film Retention, we thought this was very fitting as the definition of Retention is:
The continued possession, use, or control of something. This relates to the plot of our film in which people get possessed and controlled until they are forced to do unthinkable acts.

Our opening sequence is just setting the scene for what happens later in the film. We planned it out so that it establishes all of the characters and they're attitudes/personalities. The scene opens with Jace waking into the house and greeting his friends, this establishes all the characters in the film. Malia then has the idea to search in the attic to see if the previous owners left anything behind, resulting in the group finding a Ouija board. They then play the Ouija board however it doesn't go to plan when the lights go out and the board starts to move by itself.
